About the Role

The HIV/AIDS Specialist will join UNICEF’s Health team under the guidance of the Chief of Health (P5). This role is central to the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of HIV/AIDS programmes, particularly focusing on:

  • Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT)
  • Paediatric and Adolescent HIV
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)
  • HIV programme financing and sustainability

The specialist will also provide technical expertise and operational support to ensure that HIV interventions are well integrated into UNICEF’s broader advocacy, policies, and humanitarian initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

As an HIV/AIDS Specialist, you will be expected to:

  1. Support programme development and planning – Provide expert input in designing HIV/AIDS interventions aligned with national and UNICEF priorities.
  2. Programme management and monitoring – Ensure smooth implementation of HIV projects, track progress, and deliver measurable results.
  3. Technical and operational support – Work closely with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders to strengthen programme delivery.
  4. Networking and partnerships – Build and sustain strong collaborations with government agencies, NGOs, and other key players.
  5. Innovation and knowledge management – Contribute to research, knowledge sharing, and innovative approaches in tackling HIV/AIDS.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this role, candidates must meet the following:

  • Education: An Advanced University Degree in Public Health, Paediatric or Adolescent Health, Global/International Health, Epidemiology, Health Policy and Management, or related health sciences.
  • Work Experience: At least five years of professional experience in public health programme planning, HIV/AIDS project management, or healthcare delivery. Experience within the UN system is a strong asset.
  • Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of a local language or another UN language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, or Chinese) is an advantage.
  • Other Desirables: Experience in development or humanitarian contexts, with strong technical knowledge in HIV/AIDS and SRHR.
